TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration said Chiayi, Miaoli County, and Tainan are posting the highest hotel booking rates for the Lunar New Year holiday, which runs from Feb. 14 to 22.
CNA reported Monday that the administration released the figures on its website based on data collected as of Thursday. Average booking rates for Feb. 14 to 21 put Chiayi at 55.91%, Miaoli County at 51.32% and Tainan at 49.55%.
The administration said eight cities and counties, including New Taipei, Taichung, Nantou County, Chiayi County, and Taitung County, are above the national average booking rate of 38.33%. Booking rates are expected to peak during the first three days of the holiday, from Feb. 17 to 19.
Economic Daily News reported the administration said Chiayi ranked first partly because many people are returning home and choosing to stay overnight. The city also attracts visitors traveling to nearby destinations such as the Alishan Forest Railway.
CTS reported that Miaoli County and Tainan remained near the top because they are long-standing Lunar New Year travel favorites. Officials added that final occupancy rates could still change, as many travelers tend to book rooms closer to the holiday period.
