TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army has redesignated its armored and mechanized infantry brigades into combined arms brigades to align with overall force-building plans and to boost defensive combat capabilities.
The change, which was implemented this month, offers flexible organization and adaptable employment, CNA reported. This is conducive to rapid response and crisis management as well as independent combat missions.
The Army previously had four armored brigades and three mechanized infantry brigades deployed in Taiwan’s north, west, and south. The original unit numbers are retained, but they will be collectively referred to as combined arms brigades.
The Army opened its new Tangshan artillery training base last week in Guanmiao, Tainan, equipped with new facilities and weapons, including HIMARS and the Land Sword missile system.
To strengthen strike capabilities, it is also considering purchasing 30 additional Black Hawk helicopters. The Army plans to retrofit its existing utility Black Hawk helicopters so they can fire Hellfire missiles, rockets, and other weapons.
