TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — DPP Legislators Chen Ting-fei (陳亭妃) and Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲) met for the first time on Friday since Chen won the party’s bitterly contested Tainan mayoral primary.
Asked about the interaction at the Legislative Yuan, Chen said Lin offered words of encouragement and underlined party unity, per Tai Sounds.
Before the meeting, Lin was questioned by reporters about claims that Chen had informed him of her intention to visit, per UDN. Lin said he was surprised by the question, stressing that he had not been notified.
DPP Legislator Kuo Kuo-wen (郭國文), who backed Lin during the primary, also commented on the situation, per Mirror Media. He said Lin may have missed Chen’s call but noted that the two have ample opportunities to meet at the Legislative Yuan. Kuo added that the DPP’s priority has now shifted to defeating KMT Legislator Hsieh Lung-chieh (謝龍介).
Turning to her prospective mayoral opponent, Chen said she had defeated Hsieh in all five of their previous electoral contests.
Hsieh, meanwhile, has characterized the local elections in November as putting a focus on President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), citing what he described as public desire for change after 33 years of DPP rule, per ETtoday.
Following her primary victory, Chen expressed gratitude to DPP Legislator Wang Shih-chien (王世堅), who was among the few prominent DPP figures to back her during the primary. She invited Wang to take part in her rally during the mayoral election campaign, per Tai Sounds.
Asked about the possibility of running for Taipei mayor after supporting Chen, Wang said the DPP has many capable figures besides himself who could shoulder the responsibility, per ETtoday.
