TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan will offer free guided walking tours during the Lunar New Year holiday for residents and visitors to explore historic streets and local culture.
The city government said Thursday that 31 additional tours will run from Feb. 14-22, except on Lunar New Year’s Eve, bringing the total to 63 tours during the Lunar New Year holiday. The tours cover popular areas such as West Central District, Anping, Yanshui, and Baihe, with a focus on local history and culture.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said each tour lasts about two hours and is led by trained guides. Huang said guides will lead groups through old streets and traditional neighborhoods, offering an easy way for visitors to learn more about the city.
Liberty Times reported that the routes include harbor communities and hot spring towns. Tourism Bureau Director Lin Kuo-hua (林國華) noted that tour group sizes are limited, popular routes may fill up quickly, and online registration opens about two weeks before each tour.
The bureau said tour details and registration are available via the Tainan Travel website. It said other walking routes can be booked year-round, but Lunar New Year tours require booking at least 15 days in advance to arrange guides.
