TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Changhua County on Thursday launched its public bike system in Erlin Township, rolling out nine stations near schools, parks, and transport hubs as part of efforts to cut emissions.
The county government said Thursday that Erlin is the 11th township in Changhua to introduce public bicycles. The system is meant to meet daily travel needs and help the town adopt more sustainable transportation.
Officials said the stations connect with the upcoming Erlin transfer hub to allow easy transfers and help meet last-mile travel needs. The system also extends to neighboring Puxin Township to link nearby towns and common travel routes.
CNA and Youth Daily News reported that Changhua County has built 174 stations and put 2,700 bikes into service countywide, with usage continuing to rise. Residents were encouraged to use Tpass monthly passes, which offer the first 30 minutes free, to save money and reduce carbon emissions.
Township officials said the bikes help fill transport gaps and improve the quality of life in the area. The county added that it is also planning to adjust bus routes and shared taxi services to support travel needs in rural communities.
