TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) visited TECO’s Zhongli plant on Tuesday to review the company’s drone power systems and robotic joint modules.
During the visit, Hsiao praised TECO’s automated production lines and research achievements, noting the advantages of rare-earth-free motors and the company’s forward-looking drone technology, per CNA.
TECO Chair Lee Ming-hsien (利明献) said the company is investing heavily in core motor and system integration technologies to address global energy transitions and critical material shortages. The goal is to strengthen Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness amid international supply chain shifts.
TECO said it is among the few Taiwanese manufacturers mass-producing switched reluctance motors, producing fully magnet-free rare-earth-free motors that overcome efficiency limits of traditional designs. The motors can be applied across industries, including petrochemical, HVAC, and semiconductors. They are used in factory water pumps marketed in the US and Europe.
For electric vehicles and high-payload commercial drones, TECO integrates flat-wire winding and oil-cooling technologies, boosting power efficiency. The company also showcased small drone power systems, highlighting Taiwan’s domestic supply chain using local steel and machining suppliers.
