TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two Taiwanese carriers have been named among the world’s safest airlines, with EVA Air ranking eighth and Starlux 11th in the latest “World’s Safest Airlines” list released by AirlineRatings.com, per CNA.
AirlineRatings.com, an aviation rating website, has published annual airline safety rankings since 2013. The evaluations assess the safety performance of nearly 400 airlines worldwide using a proprietary methodology.
According to the website, selection criteria are based on standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and audit results from civil aviation authorities. Additional indicators include fleet age and operation, maintenance standards, and historical flight safety records.
In a press release issued Tuesday, EVA Air said it has been recognized as one of the world’s safest airlines for the 13th consecutive year and is the only Taiwanese carrier to place in the global top 10.
EVA Air President Sun Chia-ming (孫嘉明) said flight safety is the airline’s unwavering core value. He attributed consecutive years of recognition to employees’ long-term commitment to safety and strict adherence to standard operating procedures. Going forward, Sun said the airline will continue to enhance its safety management system and strengthen risk prevention mechanisms, per CNA.
Starlux, which ranked 11th, said in a separate press release that the international recognition reflects the long-term dedication of its employees to flight safety and the careful execution of every operational detail.
Although the airline has been operating for only five years, Starlux said its team is composed of experienced aviation professionals, enabling the company to rapidly expand its route network while maintaining high safety standards.
The airline added that while AirlineRatings.com typically excludes newly established carriers from its rankings, Starlux’s performance in safety, operational transparency, and corporate culture was deemed exceptional.
