TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan-produced jujubes have entered the Singapore market for the first time, with an initial shipment of fresh fruit dispatched on Monday.
The Tainan City Government said the export is being coordinated by a local fruit and vegetable production cooperative, with the primary supply from a Nanxi District jujube orchard operated by young farmer Lin Yi-fu (林一夫), per CNA. The initiative also includes passion fruit from the Zuozhen District Farmers’ Association and guava from another local cooperative, which handles grading and export operations.
The Tainan City Agriculture Bureau said the fruits have entered Singapore’s high-end Takashimaya department store channels, boosting the international visibility and brand image of Tainan’s agricultural products. It described the project as a successful example of cross-organization integration in agricultural exports.
The bureau said Tainan’s climate and cultivation techniques produce jujubes with high sweetness and a delicate texture that have long been popular with domestic consumers. The fruit is air-freighted weekly under a cold-chain logistics system to ensure freshness, quality and flavor that meet high-end market standards.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the seasonal exports include jujubes, guava, passion fruit and Hami melons. He said Tainan produces fresh fruit year-round, offering diverse options even in winter that are ideal for holiday gift-giving.
Huang said the Singapore export secures better returns for farmers while raising the international profile of Tainan fruit. He expressed hope that pineapples in spring, mangoes in summer, pomelos in autumn, and jujubes and Hami melons in winter will continue expanding into overseas markets.
