TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwanese semiconductor packaging firm Silicon Precision Industries Co. Ltd. (SPIL) announced a major expansion of its facilities in Changhua this week.
Anticipating increased demand for AI products and semiconductor packaging services, SPIL said five new buildings will be added to its campus in Erlin, Changhua. The new facilities are expected to be fully operational in 2028 and provide an additional 7,000 jobs in the area, reported CNA.
On Sunday, the company held the eighth annual SPIL half marathon in Erlin for employees, family, and friends. Participants, led by SPIL Chair Tsai Chi-wen (蔡祺文), ran around the Erlin plant, and CEO Chien Kun-yi (簡坤義) fired the starting gun.
The Erlin campus, which represents a total investment of almost NT$100 billion (US$3.1 billion), is set to become the company’s benchmark plant for AI-related technologies. It currently covers 27 hectares, with two operational semiconductor testing and packaging plants.
Chien said the decision to invest in Changhua was intended to cultivate local talent and enhance regional economic activity outside major metropolitan areas. Changhua Magistrate Wang Hui-mei (王惠美) expressed gratitude to SPIL for providing increased employment opportunities close to home for young people, per CNA.
SPIL is headquartered in Taichung, and it has plants in Hsinchu and Yunlin in addition to Changhua. Over the next two years, SPIL will hire engineers, plant managers, technical assistants, administrative staff and other roles to operate the new plants as they open.
