TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense said it will seek ways to boost domestic munitions production to ensure Taiwan can continue fighting during a conflict.
Given the difficulty of wartime resupply by sea and air, the ministry said it will pursue independent production of new munitions and establish local ammunition production lines, CNA reported. It also said it will optimize the military’s ammunition management and storage facilities.
The ministry said it will also acquire new equipment and deepen cooperation with allies, including by introducing technologies from those countries.
The current munitions procurement process includes conducting a comprehensive review based on factors such as sources of acquisition, domestic and overseas production capacity, and delivery timelines, it said.
For explosives used by drones and unmanned surface vessels, it plans to use diversified channels to establish multiple sources of supply and strengthen supply systems. For munitions of the same type, production is primarily commissioned through the Armaments Bureau and the National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, supplemented by foreign military procurement and commercial purchases.
