TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan City Government on Thursday held interviews for its part-time job program for college students over winter break, drawing nearly 150 people for 27 public sector positions.
The city government said the program aims to help students utilize winter break to gain work experience while earning money. Interviews and on-site registration were held on Thursday morning at the Yonghua Civic Center.
Students said the interview process moved quickly and smoothly, though many felt excited and nervous about meeting city officials for the first time. Several said they hope to secure a job before the Lunar New Year so they can use the break well and learn how government offices operate.
Liberty Times and ETtoday reported Thursday that the city is offering positions across 19 departments, including health, agriculture, education, tourism, and environmental bureaus. Job duties include administrative support, social media tasks, tourism assistance, and data sorting.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said young people bring energy and fresh ideas to the city, and the program gives them a clear way to take part in public affairs. He said the one-month placements are designed to turn a long school break into a chance to learn practical skills and explore future career options.
The city’s Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission said it plans to keep expanding flexible channels for students to join public sector work so city policies better reflect youth perspectives. Interview results are expected to be announced by Saturday on the commission’s official website.
