TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration released its first-ever travel guidebook spotlighting Indigenous communities, titled “Original Colors: A Journey to the Heart of the Island.”
The book embraces the concept of “understanding culture,” compiling Indigenous rituals and ceremonies that travelers can take part in, CNA reported. It also highlights community tourism through food, lodging, experiences, shopping, and transportation.
The administration said the guidebook presents the vibrant cultures of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples under three main themes: mountain festival journeys, memories of the sea, and songs of everyday life. With accessible writing and refined visual design, the publication aims to help travelers plan their trips and understand the spirit and context behind the culture.
Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀) said that many travelers lack clear pathways to participate in Indigenous culture. With the guidebook, the administration hopes to help visitors interested in Indigenous culture enter communities, learn the stories of Indigenous homelands, and understand Taiwan’s distinctive cultural landscapes.
This will encourage deeper engagement through community-based travel and experiences, Chen said.
