TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) shared four goals to tackle challenges facing Taiwan, during a Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau graduation ceremony on Thursday.
Lai said he was determined to combat Chinese united front operations and infiltration, according to the Presidential Office. He aims to build a comprehensive democratic defense mechanism and foster solidarity and trust within Taiwanese society. Through effective investigative and enforcement measures, Taiwan’s democracy can continue to thrive, he said.
Cracking down on gangs and eliminating the root causes of crime are also a priority, Lai said. He encouraged MJIB personnel to leverage to take down gangs and impose strict punishment, showing no leniency.
Lai also wants to combat fraud at the source. He hoped that novice investigators would learn from their seniors to uphold a zero-tolerance attitude toward fraud and utilize technological investigative methods and cross-regional coordination.
The president said fighting corruption and cleaning up election practices are key to laying a stronger foundation for democratic politics. When investigators assume their posts, they must treat anti-corruption as a vital task. Regardless of party affiliation or who is involved, as long as there is evidence, the case must be thoroughly investigated and handled in accordance with the law.
Lai said he strived to safeguard national security, protect the lives and property of Taiwanese, and secure people’s livelihoods.
