TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A continental cold air mass moving across Taiwan prompted cold surge advisories for 17 cities and counties on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
CNA reported that from Wednesday through Thursday night, many places are set to cool down, with some dropping below 10 C. It is expected to feel colder at night and early mornings.
Temperatures in Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, Miaoli, and Yilan may drop to around 10 C or lower. In Keelung, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien, and Kinmen, local lows could fall below 10 C.
CWA forecaster Lai Hsin-kuo (賴欣國) said western Taiwan will sit near 10 C to 13 C at night, while Hualien and Taitung will stay closer to 14 C to 16 C. Open and rural areas could be colder due to radiative cooling, he added.
Northern Taiwan should top out near 15 C on Thursday and rise to about 18 C to 20 C later, while central and southern areas will reach 18 C to 22 C. The cold air mass will ease slightly on Friday and Saturday, but only daytime highs will rise, Lai said.
Another cold air mass is set to move in from Saturday evening into early Monday, bringing cooler nights near 13 C to 15 C, Lai said. Daytime highs in the north may drop to 16 C to 18 C, while central Taiwan should see 24 C highs and the south 25 C.
