TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan has strengthened its values-based diplomacy through NGOs, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said at the sixth NGO Leaders Forum on Tuesday.
Lin emphasized that NGOs are important partners in designing and implementing credible and concrete initiatives, helping Taiwan expand its global influence, CNA reported. These efforts have become actionable “Taiwan solutions” that partners trust, he said.
They also show that Taiwan’s meaningful international participation can make the world better and that value-added diplomacy can benefit the international community, Lin said.
Lin cited his trip to Poland in September when he oversaw the signing of a Taiwan–Ukraine initiative agreement to help vulnerable children in Kyiv. The agreement facilitated cooperation among Kyiv city officials, the international NGO WeWorld, and the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, becoming a model case of public–private collaboration, he said.
The foreign minister believed Taiwan would become an important regional hub for global NGOs. NGOs are an indispensable force connecting Taiwan with the world, he said.
