TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) on Wednesday confirmed that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will visit Taiwan later this month to sign a land-use rights agreement for the company’s new Taiwan headquarters.
Responding to reports that he may attend a signing press event for Nvidia’s headquarters project in the Beitou–Shilin Technology Park, Huang on Tuesday said that if he receives an invitation from the Taipei City Government, he would likely attend, per ETtoday. Huang is also expected to attend Nvidia’s year-end banquet during the visit.
Lee told UDN that Huang will visit Taiwan from Jan. 29 to 31, and will sign the agreement during that period. However, the exact date of the signing has yet to be finalized and is still awaiting Huang’s decision.
Regarding the land-use rights agreement, Lee said Huang personally dislikes the conventional “tabletop signing” format. As a result, the paperwork may be handled by company representatives, while the signing press event attended by Huang will adopt a more “creative” approach.
Lee also said the city government plans to take Huang to plots T17 and T18 in the tech park for the signing and will follow local customs by inviting him to pay respects at a nearby Tudigong (Earth God) temple. City officials will also brief Huang at the site on the Taipei City Government’s overall development plans for the tech park.
Nvidia’s investment proposal is reportedly expected to be completed by mid-month. The city government had originally scheduled the Urban Planning Commission to review zoning changes for T17 and T18 on Jan. 22.
However, Huang is said to have views on the building planned for the site and hopes to revise it into a design that would surpass Nvidia’s US headquarters. In response, the city has rescheduled the commission review to Jan. 26.
