TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines will lower fuel surcharges for flights departing Taiwan starting Thursday, cutting short-haul routes by about NT$78 (US$2.50) and long-haul routes by around NT$204 per segment.
In response to falling global fuel prices, the airlines said surcharges for flights departing Taiwan will be NT$549 per segment for short-haul routes, including Hong Kong, a reduction of approximately NT$78, per CNA. For long-haul routes, the surcharge will be NT$1,428 per flight segment, a decrease of about NT$204.
China Airlines said the additional fuel cost per passenger is NT$5,290 for long-haul flights and NT$1,141 for short-haul flights. After deducting the surcharge, the airline absorbs 73% of the extra cost for long-haul and 52% for short-haul flights.
EVA Air said the additional fuel cost per passenger is NT$7,814 for long-haul flights and NT$1,308 for short-haul flights. After the surcharge, it absorbs 82% of long-haul and 58% of short-haul fuel costs.
Starlux Airlines said the additional fuel cost per passenger is NT$2,598 for long-haul flights and NT$648 for short-haul flights. After accounting for the surcharge, the airline absorbs 70% of long-haul and 55% of short-haul fuel costs.
Fuel surcharges for international flights by Taiwanese carriers are adjusted according to changes in the international aviation fuel price announced by CPC Corp and filed with the Civil Aviation Administration.
