TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday that approximately 200 Taiwanese in Venezuela are safe following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro over the weekend, per CNA.
MOFA said the situation in Caracas remains calm and that international flights are gradually resuming after the US lifted temporary airspace restrictions over parts of the Caribbean Sea imposed during the military operation. Several international airlines have announced a phased return of services to Venezuela, the ministry added.
The ministry said it is continuing to assess developments through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Bogota, Colombia, which handles Venezuelan affairs. The office has reminded all Taiwanese nationals in the country to remain vigilant and pay close attention to personal safety.
MOFA said it will continue to monitor the situation to determine whether assistance is needed for Taiwanese citizens who wish to leave the country.
