TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Costco Taiwan announced Monday that it will raise membership fees effective April 1, marking its first price increase in a decade and lifting the annual personal membership by about 11%.
Costco will increase the cost of its basic “Gold Star” personal membership from NT$1,350 to NT$1,500 (about US$43 to US$48). The retailer will also raise fees for “Business” memberships, previously priced at NT$1,150, and “Business add-on” memberships, previously NT$900, to a uniform price of NT$1,500, per CNA.
Fees for the premium “Black Diamond” membership will remain unchanged at NT$3,000. This tier offers exclusive services and rewards of up to NT$30,000.
Costco’s membership-based model generates a substantial share of the company’s annual revenue and is a key contributor to its profits. A similar membership fee increase was implemented in the US and Canada in September 2024, and a Taiwan adjustment had been widely expected.

Costco Taiwan said the last membership fee adjustment occurred in 2016. Over the past decade, the company has continued to invest in logistics and expand its professional service offerings, including hearing aid and eyewear centers, while enhancing the overall shopping experience.
The company said it remains committed to providing members with high-quality products at reasonable prices. Through the membership system, Costco said, members benefit from the retailer’s global sourcing power, which helps lower product prices and ensures savings are passed on to consumers.
Following the fee adjustment, Costco said it will continue to expand discounts through special promotions such as Black Friday and Singles’ Day, strengthen the price competitiveness of its Kirkland Signature private-label brand, and pass on cost savings to members.
