TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei and New Taipei buses and Taipei Metro will begin accepting QR code payments on Saturday.
Taipei Department of Transportation said payments will be accepted on city buses across Taipei and New Taipei via five platforms: EasyWallet, iPass Money, icash Pay, JKO Pay, and PX Pay Plus, per CNA.
Taipei Metro will additionally support TWQR-linked banks, E.Sun Wallet, PlusPay, and Taishin Pay. It said passengers should open their e-payment app in advance and ensure sufficient balance.
Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation reminded riders that the same payment account must be used for entry and exit. If the balance is insufficient at exit, the payment provider will advance the fare once. Frequent rider discounts will still apply and be credited on the fifth day of the following month.
The operator added that Taishin Bank will begin a six-month pilot for credit card entry on Saturday. Taishin cardholders using Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay can tap through designated gates, with full rollout to all cards and Apple Pay Express Transit Mode expected in July.
EasyCard Corporation said first-time EasyWallet users riding buses or the metro in Taipei and New Taipei from Jan. 3 to Feb. 28 will receive 50% cashback on fares, capped at NT$33 (US$1.05) and limited to 100,000 users. A separate promotion will offer a NT$50 cashback voucher after three QR code rides, limited to 10,000 vouchers.
