TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) opened the Presidential Office to the public on Thursday, handing out red envelopes to welcome the new year.
The Presidential Office opened at 9 a.m., drawing long lines of visitors, per CNA. Lai and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) greeted visitors and handed out special-edition Kuai Kuai snacks.
Lai said the government’s priorities for the year include national security and democratic unity. He urged ruling and opposition parties to work together to meet mounting domestic and external challenges.
Public access areas included the front plaza, main gate, and souvenir center, per RTI. Displays featured nine permanent exhibition zones and three special exhibitions.
A key attraction was the “Resilient Taiwan” exhibition curated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Lai toured the exhibit with Economic Affairs Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫).
Lai also visited a pop-up market selling Team Taiwan baseball merchandise, signing autographs and interacting with visitors.
