TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Metro said New Year’s countdown events in Tamsui District and strong transfer demand drove record single-day ridership on three lines and pushed total 2025 ridership past 30.09 million.
CNA reported Thursday that the operator said countdown crowds helped the Danhai Light Rail Transit, Circular Line, and Ankeng LRT reach a combined single-day record of about 135,000 rides. The boost was attributed to holiday events, smoother transfers, and additional train services.
New Taipei Metro said the Danhai LRT logged about 36,000 rides that day despite steady rain, while the Circular Line carried about 90,000 riders and the Ankeng LRT added around 8,000.
The Commercial Times reported Thursday that the company said total annual ridership reached more than 30.09 million, up over 40% from 2024. The Circular Line rebounded after earthquake repairs, while the Danhai and Ankeng lines posted steady gains.
New Taipei Metro Corporation General Manager Wu Kuo-chi (吳國濟) said surpassing 30 million rides is a milestone and the system will continue to tighten headways and upgrade services to support a more convenient metro network across New Taipei.
