TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Police are stepping up security at Taiwan Railways and High Speed Rail stations nationwide for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Railway Police Bureau Director-General Chen Chin-kun (陳錦坤) oversaw operations at Taipei Main Station and ordered heightened patrols, per CNA. The move follows a stabbing in Taipei on Dec. 19 and a public threat incident on Tuesday.
The bureau said 37 New Year’s Eve concerts and New Year’s Day flag-raising and kickoff events will be held, increasing passenger flows at major rail hubs. It mandated four measures to enhance security.
The first measure focuses on increasing police visibility through intensified patrols and targeted monitoring, alongside closer coordination with local police units. The second integrates railway staff and security personnel in reporting suspicious activity.
The third measure requires rapid reporting and dispatch to prevent incidents from escalating. The fourth emphasizes on-site emergency handling, including area control and casualty rescue.
The Railway Police Bureau urged travelers to follow police and station staff guidance during holiday events. It also reminded the public to stay alert and prioritize personal safety while traveling.
