TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Education on Wednesday announced a broad package of pay increases for teachers, including a higher monthly allowance for homeroom teachers and a boost in hourly pay for part-time and substitute teachers.
The package includes increasing the monthly homeroom teacher allowance at public senior high schools and below from NT$3,000 (US$95) to NT$4,000, and raising hourly pay for part-time and substitute teachers by 20%, per CNA. The adjustments also include additional administrative work bonuses of NT$1,000 to NT$2,000 and expanded injury insurance coverage for teachers who voluntarily serve in remote areas.
Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀) said the measures reflect the government’s commitment to frontline educators and provide concrete support. He added that Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) approved the package and agreed to make the measures retroactive to Sept. 1.
Cheng said challenges facing schools are increasingly complex, ranging from parent-teacher communication to classroom management and administrative support. He said the ministry must back educators with stronger policy support.
