TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A pregnant woman gave birth to a baby boy inside a post office in Changhua County’s Yuanlin City on Monday after her water broke during a visit.
CNA reported Wednesday that the woman, surnamed Chang (張), was running errands at the Zhongzheng Road Post Office when she suddenly felt unwell and realized her water had broken. Staff called an ambulance, comforted her, and cleared space in the lobby.
Paramedics arrived and determined it was too risky to move her to the ambulance, opting to deliver the baby in the post office lobby instead.
Bystanders formed a human shield to protect the woman’s privacy. The delivery took about 20 minutes, and the baby boy was born safely.
UDN reported Wednesday that the baby’s cries echoed through the lobby, easing tension among staff and onlookers. The mother and baby were later taken by ambulance to a hospital and were both in stable condition.
Changhua Post Office Director Chen Le-ming (陳樂明) later visited the hospital with gifts. He said the post office is part of the community and staff were proud to help welcome a new life.
