TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei’s second administrative center is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2026, and will house about 3,000 staff from the city’s Police Department and other agencies.
CNA reported Wednesday that the center was originally scheduled for completion at the end of 2026. Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) attended the topping-out ceremony Wednesday and said the timeline has been moved up.
The city’s Public Works Department said construction began in January 2022 and the main steel structure has been finished. Exterior walls and interior work are still underway, while agencies have already started interior fit-outs to save time.
China Times reported Wednesday that the new center will serve as the city government’s main command hub. It will house upgraded police, emergency response, and food safety monitoring centers.
About 3,000 staff from agencies including police, health, fire, labor, and transportation are expected to move in after it opens. The city said final inspections and licensing will follow construction so agencies can relocate before the end of next year.
The department’s Chief Secretary Li Chung-yun (李仲昀) said the project is also expected to support redevelopment in nearby districts. Li said the center will help improve coordination across city agencies once operations begin.
