TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Starlux Airlines will launch services between Taichung and Tokyo’s Narita Airport at the end of March, reports said Wednesday.
When it launches on March 30, the flights will be the first to directly connect central Taiwan with Tokyo, the Liberty Times reported. Ticket sales started Wednesday morning.
An Airbus A321 will serve the route four times a week. The airline already operates flights between Taichung and Okinawa, Kobe, and Takamatsu in Japan; Da Nang and Phu Quoc in Vietnam; and Macau. Services between Taichung and the island of Miyako in southern Japan will start on Feb. 13.
Starlux said Taichung has a mature and stable base of international travelers. Until now, residents in the region had to travel north to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to fly to Tokyo, so the new service will cut travel time and expenses.
Apart from focusing on individual travelers, business travelers, and expats heading home, Starlux said it is also cooperating with travel agents to design tour packages for the Kanto region.
