TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan has expanded a fifth batch of public EV chargers as part of a citywide rollout backed by NT$250 million (US$7.9 million) in environmental ministry funding.
The city government said Wednesday that the rollout covers 23 locations in 12 districts, with six high-power fast chargers and 37 slower chargers now in service. The sites include public parking lots, district offices, libraries, sports parks, and community centers to help drivers charge close to home.
Transport Bureau Director-General Wang Ming-te (王銘德) said the broader plan aims to install charging stations at 202 locations across all 37 districts. The project includes 200-kilowatt fast chargers and 11-kilowatt slow chargers to reduce range anxiety and promote cleaner transportation.
Liberty Times reported Wednesday that additional stations will come online in stages as work is completed. Some spaces are marked as charging-only or charging-priority, and drivers who block them can face a NT$1,200 fine.
The city said the first four batches logged 748 charging sessions since May, delivering more than 14,000 kilowatt-hours. Drivers can check live charger status and pay through city apps.
