TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense tracked 77 Chinese military aircraft, 17 naval vessels, and eight official ships around Taiwan between 6 a.m. on Tuesday and 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Thirty-five of the 77 People’s Liberation Army aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line in the country’s northern, central, and southwestern air defense identification zone, according to the MND.
In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal-based missile systems to monitor PLA activity.
China, on Monday and Tuesday, carried out what it called the “Justice Mission 2025” drills around Taiwan, where Chinese naval and air force units simulated strikes on maritime and aerial targets and practiced anti-submarine drills, according to Reuters.
The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command also conducted 10 hours of live-fire drills, which included firing rockets into waters to the north and south of Taiwan, per Reuters.
So far this month, Taiwan has tracked Chinese military aircraft 483 times and ships 261 times.
