TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Coast Guard is closely monitoring Chinese military exercises near its waters and has deployed vessels to ensure maritime safety.
China’s Eastern Theater Command on Monday morning announced the start of the “Justice Mission 2025” joint military exercises, with live-fire drills scheduled for Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. across five sea and air zones around Taiwan. The Coast Guard said it detected four Chinese coast guard vessels approaching northern and eastern waters and dispatched larger ships, with additional support on standby.
An emergency operations center was also established to coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense. The agency asked the public to remain calm.
The Coast Guard said, “China’s military exercises to intimidate and exert pressure have disrupted the international order and the status quo.” It added that the drills pose significant risks to navigation and the rights of fishermen in Taiwan’s waters.
The agency said it will respond in coordination with the defense ministry and other national security agencies to ensure safe and smooth sea lanes, safeguard sovereignty, and protect citizens’ lives and property.
