TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s stock market is on track for a record year, posting the largest single-year point gain in history as of Wednesday.
The Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX), which tracks listed companies, has risen 5,336 points so far in 2025. Combined market capitalization of listed and over-the-counter companies has reached NT$99.96 trillion (US$3.18 trillion), approaching the NT$100 trillion milestone, CTEE reported.
Despite a market downturn in April, the second half of the year saw consistent record levels. Investors have realized an average profit of NT$1.4 million, making 2025 the most profitable year since 2010.
Measured in US dollars, Taiwan’s total market capitalization ranks seventh globally, up from outside the top 10 last year. Analysts attributed the rise to the recent surge in AI-driven technology stocks, reflecting both stronger domestic fundamentals and increased international visibility.
Fubon Research Chair Chen Yi-kuang (陳奕光) said the expansion is expected to attract even more domestic and international investment. Taiwan Stock Exchange Chair Lin Hsiu-ming (林修銘) said the goal for 2026 is to increase the market capitalization of TAIEX-listed companies by 20%, aiming for around NT$100 trillion.
Li Fang-kuo (黎方國), chair of President Capital Management, highlighted three key implications as the market capitalization of TAIEX-listed companies approaches the NT$100 trillion milestone. Surpassing NT$100 trillion, equivalent to over US$3 trillion, is expected to draw greater attention from foreign investors and asset management firms.
Larger companies would also gain higher international visibility. The growth in market capitalization also reflects a robust domestic economy and serves as a benchmark for company quality.
With four trading days remaining in 2025, institutional investors said the combined market capitalization of listed and OTC companies is only NT$40.6 billion short of NT$100 trillion. Although early December saw a slight dip, year-end adjustments by corporate groups could push the milestone over the finish line if no major international shocks occur.
