TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taitung experienced a magnitude 6.1 earthquake at 5:47 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 10.1 kilometers north of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 11.9 kilometers, the CWA said. Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake's intensity at a specific location.
The quake registered a 5 in Taitung County. An intensity level 4 was reported in Hualien County and Pingtung County.
A level of 3 was measured in Kaohsiung, Nantou County, Tainan, Chiayi County, Yunlin County, Chiayi, and Changhua County. A level of 2 was recorded in Taichung, Miaoli County, Yilan County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu, Taoyuan, New Taipei, and Taipei.
A level of 1 was detected in Penghu County.
