TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chiayi County will host a three-day AI drone winter camp at the Chiayi Culture and Technology Innovation Hub to teach high school students how to use drones with artificial intelligence.
CNA reported Monday the camp will run from Jan. 25 to 27 and is capped at 30 students. It is open for sign-ups, with priority given to Chiayi County high school students.
The county’s Culture and Tourism Bureau said the camp will cover AI basics, flight control training, and practical applications through task-based lessons. It said students will practice drone flying, use AI image tools, and complete team projects from start to finish.
Drone firms and academics will work together to provide instruction and hands-on drills, the bureau said. The program will also use local disaster cases to show how drones can support rescue work.
County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) said the central government plans to invest about NT$8 billion (US$250 million) in drone research and manufacturing bases in Chiayi. He said the camp aims to spark students’ interest early, so they may later join, and help grow, the local drone industry.
