TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A false report of dangerous items on a Taiwan High Speed Rail train in Kaohsiung on Sunday prompted a police inspection and delayed another train by about 10 minutes, though no threats were found and services returned to normal.
The Kaohsiung Precinct of the Railway Police Bureau said that around 4:20 p.m., it received a report from Tainan Station that a passenger claimed there were dangerous objects on Train No. 833, per CNA. Kaohsiung police, along with railway personnel, conducted a safety inspection of the train at Zuoying Station, but nothing was found.
Police said the reporting party, a woman surnamed Peng (彭), was taken in for questioning and will be referred for prosecution on suspicion of violating Article 151 of the Criminal Code for endangering public safety. The case will be transferred to the Tainan District Prosecutors Office.
The railway said that at 4:55 p.m., before departure, Train No. 144 underwent a safety inspection by railway police, which required operational adjustments and a change of trainsets, resulting in an approximately 10-minute delay.
Passengers who notice suspicious people, activities, or objects should call the police emergency number 110.
