TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Snow fell on Yushan’s North Peak early Saturday, prompting the Central Weather Administration to warn hikers of slippery conditions on high-altitude trails.
Lingering southern clouds are keeping the air moist, making rain and snow more likely across the country, per the Liberty Times. The CWA reported that by 5:45 a.m., the snow accumulation on the mountain reached approximately 2.5 cm.
From Saturday through Thursday, there is a chance of snow, sleet, or ice on high mountains above 3,500 meters in central, northern, northeast, and eastern Taiwan. Hikers and mountain visitors are advised to watch for slippery roads and prioritize safety.
As for the overall outlook, Taiwan will see mostly cloudy skies with occasional light showers on Saturday, and rain will ease in the afternoon, per the CWA. Temperatures will be mild, ranging from 17–19 C at night to 23–25 C during the day, but strengthening northeast winds may increase the chance of rain in the north later in the day.
