TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A 27-year-old was detained as a suspect in the smoke grenade and knife attacks near two Taipei Mass Rapid Transit stations Friday evening.
Several people were reportedly injured during a knife attack near the Zhongshan Mass Rapid Transit station and the nearby Eslite Nanxi bookstore, reports said Friday.
The attack happened shortly after smoke grenades were set off at Taipei Station MRT station, leaving one person injured. The timing caused the authorities to consider whether the two incidents were caused by the same person, the Liberty Times reported.
The suspect reportedly first attacked people inside Zhongshan Station with a knife and threw smoke grenades after he left. He then entered the Eslite Spectrum store next to the station.
According to UDN, he fell or jumped from the fifth or sixth floor of the building. Police called an ambulance, which took him to a hospital.
