TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will continue to use its “integrated diplomacy” to assist Palau in making its economy more resilient, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Thursday after arriving in the Pacific ally for a four-day visit.
He headed a delegation comprising business people from the healthcare, tourism, and sustainable energy sectors on the Dec. 18-21 trip. The visit started with a dinner hosted by President Surangel Whipps Jr. on Thursday, per CNA.
In a Facebook post, Lin also thanked Minister of State Gustav Aitaro for welcoming the delegation at the airport and for accompanying them throughout the visit. The foreign minister said that his fourth stay in Palau would allow Taiwanese businesses to appraise local conditions and assess opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Whipps said Taiwan’s advantages in technology and innovation have opened a window on the future for Palau. A stable and long-term friendship between the two countries is based on the shared values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, he added. Lin said his latest visit would improve Palau’s tourism sector and boost the bilateral partnership to the next level.
