TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Public construction spending reached NT$602.8 billion (US$19.11 billion) in November, the National Development Council said Thursday.
The council said funding this year, including supplementary budgets, has surpassed NT$800 billion, per CNA. Among projects completed between November and early December was the trial operation of the northern concourse at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport’s Terminal 3 on Dec. 1.
The expansion adds eight large boarding gates and raises annual passenger capacity by 5.8 million, the council said.
Logistics upgrades included the completion of a cold-chain center at Banqiao Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market in New Taipei City, per Liberty Times. The facility is expected to lift daily produce throughput by 54 tonnes and provide 168 tonnes of cold storage capacity.
On the digital side, the NDC said its cross-domain software and digital services program supplied computing power from 40 Nvidia and AMD GPUs to IT providers. This year, 178 firms were guided in AI training, resulting in 59 products and faster AI deployment.
The council said ministries will review major projects scheduled for next year, as public construction spending maintains its strongest pace in nearly two decades. The economics ministry also reported progress in building a precision smart manufacturing hub in central Taiwan.
The initiative focuses on upgrading machine tools and bicycles through AI integration, while supporting competitiveness in central Taiwan, the council explained.
