TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) led a 69-member team to visit Taichung City Government on Thursday to learn about its digital and smart governance.
According to Taichung City Government, the city’s Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) met the delegation and explained how the city uses digital tools to improve daily services. Lu said the goal is to keep up with the times and focus on what people really need.
“Taichung City was the first city in Taiwan to set up a digital affairs bureau,” Lu said. The mayor said smart systems help cut down on labor shortages in a big city.
Penghu County's magistrate said Taichung’s forward-looking yet practical approach to smart cities and digital governance was impressive. Chen said Penghu will continue its digital transformation and hopes to deepen cooperation with Taichung on smart cities, per CNA.
Chen also noted that Penghu has been using smart tech in recent years to support sustainable governance. He said the county is expanding smart transport and AI-based health care, while using data systems to manage ports and reduce carbon emissions.
Taichung’s digital affairs bureau said the city will keep using tech to make life easier and safer. Officials said the visit opens the door for more teamwork on smart governance and sustainable cities.
