TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) left for a four-day visit to diplomatic ally Palau on Thursday.
His delegation includes business representatives from the tourism and hospitality, healthcare, and sustainable energy sectors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. The trip is part of Taiwan’s co-prosperity program encouraging investment in its official diplomatic allies.
In January, Lin represented President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) at the inauguration of Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. for his second term. The Taiwan delegation was the largest group attending the event, the ministry said. Whipps visited Taiwan in May to explore the country’s achievements in smart healthcare, tourism, and sustainable environmental protection.
Lin’s trip will review the results of cooperation in several areas over the past year and work to deepen trade and investment ties between the two countries. As Palau plans to host the Pacific Islands Forum in 2026, Taiwan is eager to showcase its achievements at the event, the ministry said.
