TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan on Monday swore in Yang Tsung-lin (楊宗林) as its new fire bureau commissioner at a city council meeting, with Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) presiding.
Tainan City Government said the mayor believed Yang was ready to step up after years as deputy commissioner and is deeply familiar with how the system works. Huang said the city expects Yang to strengthen cross-agency teamwork and step up its disaster response capabilities.
The mayor also noted that Yang graduated from Central Police University with a background in public safety. He added the city hopes the leadership transition stays smooth and helps build a safer, more livable Tainan.
Meanwhile, the mayor thanked former Commissioner Lee Ming-feng (李明峯), who retired after 15 years in the role. He said Lee was the longest-serving fire commissioner among those in Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.
Huang noted that the fire service made steady progress under Lee's leadership, from disaster rescue to emergency medical care. He said firefighters also scored strong results in national Emergency Medical Technician competition and saved many cardiac arrest patients.
Emergency Medical Technicians, or EMTs, are trained responders who give first aid and life-saving care before patients reach a hospital. They handle emergencies such as cardiac arrest, injuries, and severe illness.
