TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Starlux Airlines has resumed daily flights to Manila after a hiatus of more than one year, reports said Tuesday.
The service brings the total number of Starlux flights between Taiwan and the Philippines to 23 per week, per CNA. The airline already operates services to two other destinations in the country, Cebu and Clark.
More than 160,000 Philippine nationals live and work in Taiwan, with each side giving nationals of the other a 14-day visa waiver. The Manila flights take off from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in the morning and leave the Philippine capital for the return leg around noon, Starlux said.
The airline began operating two flights a week to Manila in 2021, later expanding the route to one flight per day. However, due to unfavorable time scheduling and other factors, Starlux dropped the destination in 2023.
The resumption of Taoyuan–Manila flights is not only a result of the visa waivers, but also reflects demand for transits and stopovers on routes between the Philippines and the US.
