TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan and the Philippines recently concluded the 10th Taiwan–Philippines Labor Conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The two countries discussed a range of key labor cooperation issues of mutual concern and agreed to promote direct government-to-government hiring of Filipino skilled workers and potentially establish a system for recruiting skilled overseas talent, per MOFA. The two sides also agreed to deepen bilateral labor cooperation mechanisms and strengthen protections for migrant workers’ rights.
They pledged to bolster information-sharing and management mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of labor administration and make Taiwan–Philippines labor cooperation “closer and more robust,” MOFA said. The ministry said the conference achieved substantial results.
Since 2006, Taiwan and the Philippines have held regular labor conferences on a rotating basis, the foreign ministry said. Through this dialogue platform, the two sides have continued to deepen their labor partnership and promote mutually beneficial development in bilateral ties, it added.
