TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (桌榮泰) vowed on Sunday to uphold his role as a guardian of Taiwan’s Constitution.
The premier, in a Facebook post, reflected on his 40-year political career. He noted Taiwan’s transition from martial law to democracy, including the first direct presidential election and six constitutional amendments, per CNA.
Cho recalled becoming DPP chair after the party’s 2018 local election losses and being appointed premier by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) in 2024. “Both roles were beyond anything I had expected in my life, and both were full of challenges,” he said.
Cho said his lifelong mission remains unchanged. “I will do everything in my power to safeguard national sovereignty and security, and to defend the order and dignity of constitutional governance,” he said.
“I call on brave fellow citizens to walk this road with me,” he said, urging citizens to stand with him.
