TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung’s Daliao District Office and the Daliao Farmers’ Association on Saturday hosted a red bean festival, with Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) attending to promote the district’s signature crop.
CNA reported that the event took place at Kaohsiung Metro’s Daliao Station, drawing crowds with food stalls and family-friendly games. Chen joined local officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and walked around the booths to sample snacks.
Chen said Daliao red beans stand out in Taiwan for their taste and high levels of fiber and folic acid. He added that their thin skins make them well-suited for desserts such as shaved ice and red bean cakes.
The mayor said he often gives products made with Daliao red beans as gifts to help promote the product. He said this has helped raise awareness of Kaohsiung’s agricultural products.
Daliao District Office said the festival centers on the local red bean industry and farm activities. The office said it also rolled out a red bean promo truck that will tour other events to market the district's farm products.
