TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan's North District Office on Sunday hosted a Christmas donation event at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xiaobeimen Store to support disadvantaged children.
According to the Tainan City Government, the event received a total of NT$225,300 (US$7,200) in cash donations from non-profit organizations. In addition, the Garden Night Market committee and a donor surnamed Tsai (蔡) provided NT$81,400 in night market vouchers for 257 disadvantaged students.
Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) thanked donors for their support and said the city hopes the spirit of giving will continue. Huang added that Tainan is not only warm, but warm-hearted, and that children in need should feel supported during winter.
North District Office said it will keep coordinating with organizations to look after vulnerable groups and build a friendlier community. Officials said the event is meant to plant a seed of kindness so children may one day give back.
The event also mixed multicultural elements with local community features to show the North District’s work in community-building projects. Booths highlighted local teams’ creative work, including hands-on displays and neighborhood history projects, per the city government.
