TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Economics Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) traveled to Belgium for talks about trade and investment with the EU, reports said Saturday.
Kung told EU Directorate-General for Trade Director-General Sabine Weyand about Taiwan’s efforts to make global supply chains less risky, per CNA. They two sides also exchanged views on economic security, the resilience of semiconductor supply chains, and other strategic issues.
Kung shared Taiwan’s experience in strengthening its base in technology and manufacturing to enhance its international competitiveness. At the same time, the country established trade and investment centers overseas to help its businesses develop their international activities.
In Brussels, Kung also visited the EU Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs, where he discussed business policies and cooperation with Director-General Kerstin Jorna. He also invited Taiwanese businesspeople active in Belgium and Europe to a seminar, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said.
The EU is Taiwan’s fourth-largest trading partner, with two-way trade reaching NT$2.15 trillion (US$68.7 billion) in 2024. The EU was also the largest source of foreign investment for Taiwan, having invested NT$1.86 trillion from 1952 to 2024.
