TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited representatives of ports, tourism, and cities from the Philippines for a Smart Port Development Forum.
The Dec. 9-11 event in Kaohsiung welcomed delegations from the Philippines Ports Authority, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, and reporters from the Philippine media. One of the aims of the forum was to lay the groundwork for a Taiwan-Philippines economic corridor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Friday.
Topics discussed at the forum included sustainable tourism, smart cities, ocean technology, and port development. The delegates from the two countries shared experiences and policy views, while the ministry hoped to forge closer ties between the two sides.
The welcome dinner featured an address by Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺). He emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the Philippines, Japan, and the US on the Luzon Economic Corridor launched last year. The future would show Kaohsiung and Subic Bay also possessed a rich potential to complement each other as smart ports and technology zones, he said.
Guests at the dinner also included representatives of Taiwan’s main shipping companies and tour operators, while the delegations from the Philippines visited port installations and the Love River Bay area.
