TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan is donating 100 laptops to Catholic schools in five African countries through the Catholic Society of the Divine Word, reports said Wednesday.
Taiwan Ambassador to the Vatican Anthony Ho (賀忠義) donated the funding for the project to the Catholic group to buy the computers, per CNA. The laptops will benefit 5,000 students at schools in Botswana, Angola, Mozambique, Kenya, and Ghana.
Society Superior General Father Anselmo Ricardo Ribeiro said Taiwan was not just donating computer equipment, but also respect for humanity, knowledge, and an investment in hope for the future. The resources will open a new door for many youths, allowing them to discover unprecedented opportunities, he said.
Ho thanked the society for its role in the development of New Taipei’s Fu Jen Catholic University, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month. The laptop donation was a way of responding to Pope Leo XIV’s concern for education and youth, the diplomat said.
Taiwan will continue to cooperate with the Vatican, its only official diplomatic ally in Europe, to help create a better world, Ho said.
