TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan’s bus fleet expanded with nine new Ubus electric vehicles, advancing the city’s sustainable transit plans.
The buses will run on routes 0 and 6, linking Tainan Railway Station, Tainan Bus Station, and major urban areas, per CNA. These routes serve schools and hospitals, including National Cheng Kung University Hospital, per UDN.
The transportation bureau said the city is promoting low-carbon public transit in line with the government’s goal of fully electrifying city buses by 2030. Diesel bus purchases will no longer receive subsidies and electric vehicles will replace fuel-powered buses to cut emissions.
Ubus started city bus operations in Tainan in January with diesel vehicles. The company has submitted a fleet renewal plan to phase out older buses and enhance service quality.
With the new buses rolling out, the city’s electric bus fleet will expand to 134 vehicles, bringing electrification to about 28%.
